Many of these items have attributes not normally seen in a heritage item, some places may seem unusual to include. This particular study aims to allow the story of Launceston to be understood in the built environment.

REQUIRED CRITERIA FOR ENTRY IN THE REGISTER (Tasmanian Heritage act 16)

16. The heritage council may enter a place of historic, cultural heritage significance if, in its opinion, it meets one or more of the following criteria:

a. It is important in demonstrating the evolution or pattern of Tasmania’s history;
b. demonstrates rare, uncommon or endangered aspects of Tasmania’s heritage;
c. It has potential to yeild information that will contribute to an understanding of Tasmania’s history.
